Formal Complaint
There will be those times that informal methods to curbing and preventing discrimination and harassment will not work. When that happens, it is time to take your complaint to the next level. Texas agencies encourage employees to bring forward concerns about their work and the work environment and to seek resolution within their supervisory chain.
The first step is to contact your Human Resources office, Equal Employment Opportunity Office, or similar office that address these matters and make a formal complaint. Your agency is required to provide you with the complaint or grievance procedures in addition to this training.
Once you report the situation, which should be in writing, your agency will investigate the harassment. Eventually your employer should provide you with results of the investigation. Your employer is obligated to attempt to stop harassment.
If you think your employer didn't fulfill its obligation under the law, the next step in the process is contact us, the TWC Civil Rights Division. Another option is the EEOC, your federal protection, to file your complaint.
Remember before using the last options, your employer cannot address issues that they are unaware of. Give them a chance to handle discrimination and harassment first and if that does not work you can still come address it elsewhere.
