Distinction Courses

Distinction Programs are areas of focused study and experience with components occurring throughout the three phases of the curriculum. The School of Medicine has a number of distinction programs that students can participate in.
  • MIDS 5440 (Lubbock HSC) Distinction in Leadership and Professional Development (DLPD) -0

    This course fosters the personal and professional development of future physician leaders. Course content focuses on personal development and team building competencies. Topics include exploration of emotional intelligence; self-reflection and experiential learning; time management, giving and receiving feedback; managing conflict; critical thinking; and leadership styles.

  • MIDS 5439 (Lubbock HSC) Distinction in Leadership and Professional Development (DLPD) -1

    This course fosters the personal and professional development of future physician leaders. Course content focuses on personal development and team building competencies. Topics include exploration of emotional intelligence; self-reflection and experiential learning; time management; attitudes and responses to change; managing uncertainty and ambiguity in the practice of medicine.

  • MIDS 6439 Distinction in Leadership and Professional Development (DLPD)-2

    This course fosters the personal and professional development of future physician leaders. Course content focuses on personal development and team building competencies. Topics include exploration being wrong; receiving and giving feedback; critical conversations; managing conflict; critical thinking; and leadership styles.

  • MIDS 7439 Distinction in Leadership and Professional Development (DLPD) -3

    This course fosters the personal and professional development of future physician leaders. Course content focuses on personal development, interpersonal communication, self-reflective, and goal setting competencies for a Year 3/early clinical education medical student.

  • MIDS 8439 Distinction in Leadership and Professional Development (DLPD)-4

    This course fosters the personal and professional development of future physician leaders. Course content during Phase 3 focuses on participants presenting capstone projects of their leadership journeys over the previous three years completing of the DLPD program. Capstone projects represent participants self-defined, comprehensive and meaningful representation of the personal and professional development process they have experienced from Phase 1 through Phase 3 of the DLPD program.
