$4.5 billion in improperly billed E/M services: How much is yours? - Surgery Coders ONLY

Description:

During this one-hour session, our expert will show you how to: • Avoid having your E/M report down-coded due to lack of documentation supporting the level the provider actually performed. • Calculate 1995 and 1997 levels at the same time, eliminating double auditing of E/M encounters. • Sidestep code selection differences with a unique workflow that automatically generates the alternative CMS code when appropriate. • Safeguard time-based encounter pay. • Understand ROS scores for higher level codes that have different requirements than lower level codes, ensuring 99205s and 99223s withstand scrutiny. • Decrease E/M code misuse by combining logics from 14 coding audit worksheets, including the Marshfield audit tool, into one E/M calculator. • Change the E/M level using medical necessity as the deciding factor. • Use an often misunderstood caveat to support giving history credit when history is unobtainable. • Improve E/M documentation based on quotes from CMS Evaluation and Management Documentation Guidelines and AMA CPT® guidelines to instantly support compliance during audits.

Boost Your Metamotivation, Give it the F.I.N.G.E.R.!

Description:

Burnout affects millions of Americans each year and has been called “the disease of our civilization.” The unhappiness and detachment burnout causes can threaten your job, your relationships, and your health. But there’s good news -- burnout can be healed. Former 20-year elected District Attorney, MARK YARBROUGH, from Littlefield, Texas (hometown of Waylon Jennings), personally experienced burnout, learned how to successfully overcome it, and went from “Burnout” to “On Fire!” He has since become a “burnout expert” and has written and published on the subject. Mark is a very entertaining, motivating and inspiring speaker. He has taught thousands of people how to overcome Burnout -- from companies like Blue Bell Ice Cream and Xcel Energy, to teachers and doctors/nurses, to a variety of government workers (police officers, CPS workers, attorneys, victim’s rights advocates, counselors, mental health professionals, etc.). Audience members will learn the definition of Burnout and the symptoms thereof. But more importantly, attendees will be laughing, and at the same time learning how to apply Mark’s F.I.N.G.E.R. philosophy to help themselves or their co-workers avoid and/or recover from Burnout. This is a training that you won’t want to miss!

Bullet Proof Documentation

Description:

Electronic health records (EHRs) promise to make the patient chart more inclusive, more legible, and faster to document. These advantages alleviate many of the headaches of paper charting. On the flip side—or the “dark side,” as I call it—the ease with which EHRs allow time-pressed providers to add information to the medical record, or to bring forward information from a previous note, can lead to an uncritical point-and-click mentality. In this class we will discuss all the different methods providers document, compliance in the EHR, and effective education and communications with Providers. Happiness is a Debt Free Life: Strategies on Getting Out of Debt, Staying Out of Debt, & Being Wealthy

Description:

My name is Tim Fox and I have been in debt. While I was in debt, life was stressful and unpleasant. Sound familiar? Well, then, I decided to get out of debt. It was hard but extremely rewarding. The goal of this Boost session is to show you simple steps on how to get out of debt and then stay out of debt for the rest of your life. I will first discuss the mindset that you need to have to be able to accomplish this goal. Then, I will walk you through the steps of getting out of debt and discuss a helpful resource in the Dave Ramsey plan. Finally, I will take questions from the audience on the subject at hand. This session will give you hope and real strategies to be much happier in life. It’s amazing how living on a budget can positively impact your marriage, your health, and your WEALTH! I also want to explain that this is not a session about investments. I leave that subject to the professionals. However, if you follow the goals/steps during this talk you will certainly need an investment advisor because you will have income to invest! Tim Fox is currently the Associate Administrator at Student Health Services at Texas Tech. He has served in this role for 3 years and prior to this he was the Director of Patient Services. In 2013, he received the Innovation SPIRIT Award for coming up with the idea behind the Wash ‘em Tech Signs.

Optimizing Patient Phone Experiences

Description:

Visits were made to each clinic of the Lubbock campuses. In most clinics, time was spent observing staff carry out their normal duties at front desks, back desks, and in call centers. This was done to gain some context for how the phones fit into the overall responsibilities of PSS and others from clinic to clinic. Observations ranged in length from roughly 5 minutes to 2 hours or more. Some clinics were observed multiple times. When possible the real-time monitoring software was watched on a tablet simultaneously. This helped develop understanding of the real-time reporting software and calibrate it with actual PSS/agent behavior in the clinic. The purpose of this session is to relay the diagnosis of problems noted and possible solutions for an improved phone experience. The class will equip the participants with best practices to optimize the patient phone experience.
